Field Trip

After rummaging through the entire house, looking for a sweater to frog, I made my way to the Laurel Thrift Store. Here I found a wonderful American Eagle sweater made of 80% lambs wool and 20% acrylic, with perfect seams for frogging. After I purchased the item, I looked over the shoulder of the sales clerk and behold, a perfect vase for my knitting needles. I’m in love with this icon and just had to have the vase. Of course, I spent way too much for the vase and the sweater (remember, I am a student of the yard sale queens, the Levine and Bolton dynamic duo), but I couldn’t help myself. Ever since Ashley has come in to my life, I’ve been praying for the day I can spend hours frogging a sweater. On my way back to Baltimore, what happens to appear on my left but Sal’s. I’ve got to pee like a race horse and the only sensible thing to do would be to go home, but of course, I enter Sal’s and find a turquoise sweater, with a small silver thread running through the yarn. Ahh, the beauty of frogging.

Knitting for the Public Good

Last summer, I worked at the Legal Aid Society's Health Law Unit in Harlem, NYC. Obviously, the LAS has no money to be funding a little joe shmoe law student like me, so the Maryland Public Interest Law Project (MPILP) gave me a reasonable stipend to support myself while working 11 weeks at Legal Aid. On April 1, MPILP is holding their annual auction which raises money for law students from the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore to work in the public interest legal sector. These placements include the House of Ruth, Homeless Persons Representation Project, Community Law Center, Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning, Legal Aid Bureau, and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. I've received a plea to make a donation to the auction. Soooooo, I was thinking about maybe donating the shawl that I've been working on to the auction and hopefully a few things I can finish before then. Do you ladies have anything that you would like to donate, that maybe you've made but haven't thought of a recipient or maybe you'd want to knit some things between now and April 1st to donate? It's a fantastic cause and we get to knit, which of course we love to do!!

Knitting Needles

What a great day!! My trial evidence professor cancelled our 2 hour class today. Do you wanna know why?? Because the ACC Tournament was on and Maryland was playing. Gotta love the Terps. So instead of trekking home to sit on my tush and stare into the oblivion, I went to Pickles, grabbed some wings and a beer, and watched the Maryland game. What a great afternoon. Then, just as Maryland was losing miserably, I went to work and surfed Ebay for a while. I'll admit, I'm addicted. And wanna know my two favorite saved searches? Knitting Needles and Circular Knitting Needles. I'm building my collection slowly but surely. Now I know I should be waiting until yard sale season begins, but there's some great stuff out there, and I want to get my hands on it. Since all the items I bid on are in huge lots of Vintage needles, you've got to let me in on what size needles you own and what size you are looking before, especially before you head down to Michael's. I will definitely have a ton to pass on:)

Robe for a Hat

As graduation comes near, I've been inundated with offers to buy a frame for my diploma, a huge mug with my name on it (the official name of this item escapes me now), graduation announcements and of course, graduation apparel. However, my knitting abilities and passion come through once again, and I make a trade with a wonderful friend (and luckily, a former law student). My friend Annie is lending me her graduation apparel, and in return, I've offered my knitting services to create her a hat. I'm sitting at the drawing board, sending her ideas - what kind of yarn, what color yarn, what style of a hat, etc. So, ideas for a hat - please come my way!!

Little Progress

Last night, while I was hoping that the snow would spontaneously grow 2 feet, I worked on my knitted ripple shawl. The needles are tiny, the yarn is tiny, and I knit and knit, barely making a dent. It's taking forever to make progress. A friend of mine is getting married in the fall and maybe I'll give it to her as a wedding present, something she can pass down through her family maybe? I hope I finish it by the fall...
